In this week’s permanent housing story, we meet Jesse. Jesse was sleeping near Montebello City Hall and decided to introduce himself to the Montebello Police Department officers in the area. One of the officers suggested Jesse speak with Officer Park, who partners with a Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health clinician to form the Montebello Mental Health Evaluation Team. Officer Park connected Jesse to a LAHSA outreach team.

Yolanda was working part-time when her partner died, leaving her unable to afford rent. She and her two daughters stayed in their car, parking at parks and other places, until she met LAHSA outreach team member Perla. Initially, Yolanda was scared to let anyone know the family was homeless because she feared her children would be taken away.
